When to consider a breast lift

  • If pregnancy, breastfeeding, gravity, weight gain or loss, ageing, or heredity are the causes of your sagging breasts.
  • If your doctor believes that merely by placing silicone implants the desired lift is unlikely to be achieved.
  • If the tissue surrounding the nipple or areola has suffered alterations or has stretched.

During the clinical examination at my clinic, we will discuss all the advantages as well as any potential disadvantages openly and in detail.

I am going to point out to you that with breast lift surgery there will be improvement in breast shape, projection and symmetry.

Your breasts will acquire a more youthful appearance and you will definitely feel more self-confident.

I am going to explain to you that, due to gravity and ageing, the result will gradually decline over time.

Regarding the incision scars («anchor»-shaped), they can be improved with silicone sheets and Fraxel Restore in our clinic. However, they are definitely not noticeable when you wear a bra or a swimsuit.

A future pregnancy, after the surgery, may also alter the previously optimum surgical results.

How to know if you need a breast lift

If you are feeling increasingly unhappy with the flaccidity of your breasts, you may wonder what breast lift can offer to you.

Don’t be surprised if I recommend that you should combine it with breast augmentation, with silicone implants, or breast reduction as they are considered complementary procedures which are key to achieving the goal.

The following are some of the most common reasons why you might want to proceed with breast lift:

  • Sagging breasts (ptosis) and disproportionate size.
  • Loss of volume, and unsteady breasts.
  • Nipples pointing downwards.
  • Big and heavy breasts.
  • If you have finished with childbearing and breastfeeding (if you plan to have more children, you had better postpone the procedure).

How a breast lift is performed

The breast lift procedure is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia and sedation in an organized operating room.

The available surgery techniques will determine the position of the incisions.

My choice of technique will be made based on the size and shape of your breasts, the size and position of the areola, the degree of sagging, the skin quality and elasticity, as well as the existing excess skin.

I will surgically remove any excess breast skin and will move the nipple and areola to a higher position.

There are cases where I have to intervene and change the shape of the areola in order to make it smaller in size and more harmonious.

The traditional method requires three incisions, the so-called «inverted T» or «anchor»-shape.

In some patients, it may be possible to avoid the horizontal incision under the breast, as well as the vertical incision which extends from the lower part of the nipple to the crease of the breast.

Whether you are eligible for a modified technique, in which the “inverted T” is avoided and only a peri-areolar incision is performed, or whether your morphology allows a lift with simple placement of implants is something we will talk about during our appointment.

For a month after the operation you will have to wear a special bra and to avoid exercising. You will be able to return to your regular activities after about 10 days.
